How many cameras does a two-storey house need?

The honest answer is four to six for most Nepali homes, and the reason has nothing to do with the size of the house. It is about entrances.
Start by counting the ways into the property: the main gate, the front door, the back or kitchen door, and any window or balcony reachable from a wall or a neighbouring roof. Each of those needs a camera pointed at it. Everything else — the garden, the corridor, the stairwell — is nice to have, not necessary.
A four-camera system covers gate, front door, back door and parking. A six-camera system adds the rear boundary and the top-floor balcony. Beyond eight you are usually solving a different problem, such as a compound wall or a shop on the ground floor.
Buy the recorder for where you are going in two years, not for today. The price difference between a four-channel and an eight-channel NVR is small; replacing a four-channel recorder because you added a fifth camera is not.
